The experience design brief · 19 October 2026

The handoff is becoming a shared workspace.

Design, code and written intent are moving closer together. The leadership question is how teams keep judgement, ownership and quality visible as the workflow changes.

01
AI-enabled delivery

A more connected design-to-code workflow

What changed

Figma announced code layers in open beta and Specs, a canvas-based place for written context, at Config India on 15 October. Code layers support interactive prototypes; Specs connect intent with the work on the canvas.

Why it matters

Practice lens: this creates an opportunity to review behaviour and decisions together, earlier in delivery. Clear ownership and acceptance criteria still matter.

What to watch

Pilot one bounded journey with a designer and engineer. Track rework and review quality, alongside time saved.

Practice economics

AI usage belongs in the delivery model

What changed

Reuters reported that Figma is prioritising AI investment and user growth despite margin pressure, with usage-based AI credits part of its model.

Why it matters

Practice lens: tool consumption needs to sit beside people, quality assurance and governance in engagement estimates.

What to watch

Make AI usage visible in a pilot estimate. Compare total delivery cost with the current approach.

The practice leader agenda

Three things to take into the week.

  1. Test one shared design-and-engineering review.
  2. Make the acceptance criteria explicit before using an agent.
  3. Include tool consumption in the cost of a pilot.
